Shannen Doherty Reveals She Has Stage 4 Breast Cancer [Video]

Shannen Doherty has revealed that she has stage 4 breast cancer after having gone through remission. The actress, known for her performances in the shows, Beverly Hills 90210, and, Charmed, discussed the diagnosis in an interview with Good Morning America. The return of Doherty’s breast cancer has been known by the actress for a year. The actress wanted to keep the bad news private, only initially sharing it with family members and one cast member on the forthcoming reboot of 90210. “I still do [want to keep it private]. I mean, I don’t think I’ve processed it,” admitted the actress. However, Doherty’s health information would have been made public knowledge whether she wanted it to be or not. The actress is currently involved in a lawsuit with State Farm over a claims dispute after her home was damaged by a wildfire. Documents about the case, which contain information about Doherty’s health troubles, are set to be released.

The actress knows what it is like to have private health information be publicly disclosed. Doherty was first known to have breast cancer in 2015, when leaked legal documents showed that Doherty was suing her former business managers. The management team, Tanner Mainstain Glynn & Johnson, were accused of not paying the actress’s insurance premiums. The actress developed breast cancer during the time she was uninsured. After the documents were released, Doherty admitted that she was suffering from cancer in an interview. In 2017, the actress discovered that her cancer was in remission. She took to Instagram to share her thoughts on the matter, overjoyed but still cautiously optimistic. “As every single one of my fellow cancer family knows, the next five years is crucial. Reoccurrences happen all the time. Many of you have shared that very story with me. So with a heart that is certainly lighter, I wait,” wrote the actress. She continued, writing, “I am blessed, I know that. But for now…. remission.”

Despite the cancer’s return, Doherty is still pursuing her lawsuit against State Farm as well as the 90210″ reboot. “I want to be remembered for something bigger than me,” said the actress.
