‘Rust’ Production To Wrap Until ‘Investigations Are Complete’

Production of the film Rust is wrapping production on the movie until police investigations are completed after the fatal on-set shooting.

The tragic incident involved star and producer Alec Baldwin, who was given a gun that fatally struck and killed cinematographer Halyna Hutchins and injured director Joel Souza.

The film producers sent a letter to the crew about the pause of production. The letter began with addressing the loss of Hutchins and that they were in close contact with her family. They also said Souza is in recovery and they are “supporting him however we can knowing just how difficult his journey is.”

”As we go through this crisis, we have made the decision to wrap the set at least until the investigations are complete,” the letter read after being sent out on Sunday.

The letter also stated the wrap announcement was a “pause rather than an end” to the western. There was no information as to when the project will resume.

The production team also revealed it would be donating to the Halyna Hutchins Scholarship fund and will match any donation made by the crew. The letter also provided information on emotional support for crew including in-person and virtual grief counselors.

The letter didn’t include what the wrap-up process would be like, but there may be more complications as warrants were issued on Friday by the Santa Fe Sheriff’s Office.

Evidence will be collected which includes physical evidence, such as cameras, camera equipment, tapes, hard drives, memory cards, computer hardware, firearms, ammunition and all paperwork related to firearms as well as costumes.

The warrants also lay out a timeline of events that led to the incident and the aftermath. The documents also include statements by Souza and Reid Russell, a cameraman on set as to what happened that day to investigators.

There have been no charges so far as the investigation continues.
