Rapper Rod Wave Arrested And Charged With Battery By Strangulation
Rapper Rod Wave was arrested in St. Petersburg, Florida Sunday night and was charged with battery by strangulation. Wave, full name Rodarius Marcell Green, was arrested after he was identified in a traffic stop, and it was determined he had a warrant out for his arrest relating to a supposed domestic battery incident in December 2021.
He is being held without bond at the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office and awaits trial. There are no further details regarding the incident or his victim at this time, and his record label Alamo Records declined requests by news outlets for comment.
With a style of music that some have called “soul-trap” that blends rap with elements of R&B and gospel, Rod Wave first found success with his 2019 single “Heart On Ice” which gained notoriety first on the app TikTok. His appearance in 2020 on hip-hop magazine XXL’s “Freshman List” boosted his profile further, and the March 2021 release of his third album SoulFly was Wave’s first album to hit number one on the Billboard 200.
Early last month, Rod Wave drew huge crowds at a St. Petersburg gas station when he gave away $25,000 in gas to locals to support the community as gas prices have been spiking. He also has prior arrests, once for punching a promoter in 2020 after a stage collapsed during his performance and another for a weapons charge in 2018.
