DeAngelo has been living in Citrus Heights, a suburban neighborhood of Sacramento. It has not been determined if he lived alone, but police confirmed that he does have adult children. The family members have been cooperative with the investigation since the arrest.

A neighbor of DeAngelo, Kevin Tapia told reporters he used to hear him cursing to himself in his backyard and that he was “a weird guy” who always kept to himself.

He was also a police officer in two different counties in California in the 70s, he first worked for the Exeter Police Department and then moved to the Auburn Police Department.

DeAngelo was employed as an officer in the same time frame that some of the Golden State Killer crimes took place, however, it is unknown if he was on duty while any of the crimes we committed.

He was employed as a police officer during the time that some of the Golden State Killer crimes occurred, though it is not known if he was on duty as a police officer when any of the crimes were committed.

The Auburn police department ultimately fired DeAngelo after he was caught for stealing a hammer and a can of dog repellent from a local store. Authorities are going to investigate if either of those objects were used in any of the crimes DeAngelo is accused of. They are also unclear of where DeAngelo fled to after being fired.

He later worked at the distribution center for Save Mart groceries stores for 27 years, he retired last year.
