The intimacy ban has been lifted for the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics, successfully bypassing the rules implemented in 2020 shortly after the pandemic.
Olympics Village Director Laurent Michaud revealed that the accommodations for athletes will be stocked with up to 300,000 condoms in preparation for the event.
He emphasized its importance by saying, “It is very important that the conviviality here is something big. Working with the athletes commission, we wanted to create some places where the athletes would feel very enthusiastic and comfortable.”
Providing condoms at the Olympics has been a tradition since the 1988 Seoul Olympics to raise awareness for HIV and AIDS. The 2024 Olympics in Paris will continue to maintain that tradition.
In addition to condoms, there will also be other offerings, such as France’s signature cuisine.
Michaud has said, “There is no champagne in the village, of course, but they can have all the champagne they want in Paris.”
“We will have more than 350 meters of buffet with the world food… and I’m sure that the athletes will be very happy to have some French specialties made over here,” he continued.
The French government plans to undertake a substantial security operation for the games. That includes deploying up to 15,000 soldiers around Paris to ensure the safety of athletes, tourists and residents.
The opening ceremony will be at sunset on July 26 at the Seine River. In-person viewing will be by invitation only to avoid security issues.
The ceremony organizers have promised “an unprecedented experience, using the natural light of the setting sun with all its nuances to illuminate the river promenade of all the world’s best athletes along the Seine, in the heart of the capital.”
