Meryl Streep Targeted In ‘She Knew’ Street Art Campaign

Meryl Streep is being targeted in a street art campaign to expose those in Hollywood who knew about Harvey Weinstein‘s predatory habits but stayed quiet.

MERYL STREEP TARGETED BY “SHE KNEW” STREET ART CAMPAIGN

The campaign, labeled “She Knew,” is based off of the work of artist Barbara Kruger, whose signature white, capitalized text within a red banner can be found on the posters. A black and white image of Streep smiling next to Weinstein, with “SHE KNEW” over her eyes.

The posters were placed near Streep’s home in Pasadena, California, by the SAG-AFTRA building, and across from the 20th Century Fox studio lot. Fox was targeted because of Streep’s involvement in recent film The Post, which opens on Jan. 11.

Streep has denied any knowledge of Weinstein’s abusive and predatory actions toward women, but some believe that Streep was well aware of his misdeeds. Actress Rose McGowan has also claimed that Streep knew but did not speak up until the wind of accusations were brought on the Hollywood executive.

On Tuesday, Streep responded directly to McGowan’s claims. “I want to let her know I did not know about Weinstein’s crimes, not in the ’90s when he attacked her, or through subsequent decades when he proceeded to attack others,” the actress stated. “I wasn’t deliberately silent. I didn’t know. I don’t tacitly approve of rape. I didn’t know.”
