After a reported 19,000 air-raid alarms in Ukraine’s first year of war with Russia, the people needed something a little more uplifting going into their second year – so Mark Hamill, the iconic Star Wars lead, offered his voice to help.
The air-raid app has been downloaded more than 14 million times and warns the people of Ukraine of Russian bombs, missiles or exploding drones may be heading their way and suggest they find shelter. People can choose between a woman speaking Ukrainian, or Hamill speaking English with a Jedi Knight-like voice.

“Attention. Air raid alert,” the alert begins. “Proceed to the nearest shelter. Don’t be careless, your overconfidence is your weakness.” And when the danger has passed, Hamill says, “the air alert is over. May the Force be with you.”
Hamill said in an interview with that the people of Ukraine are an inspiration and wanted to use his Star Wars touch to bring a little comfort to them.
Ajax Systems co-developed the app and said that it’s a Ukrainian mindset to try and find the light in the darkest situations with some humor, which has been the case for several app users.
