On Friday, Macaulay Culkin received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame and had a reunion with Catherine O’Hara, who played his mom in the Home Alone movies.
She delivered a speech at the podium while standing next to the star.
“Home Alone was, is and always will be, a beloved global sensation … the reason families all over the world can’t let a year go by without watching and loving Home Alone together is because of Macaulay Culkin,” she told the audience.
The Canadian-American actress told Culkin that his performance in the 1990 film was perfect.
“I know you worked really hard, I know you did, but you made acting look like the most natural thing in the world to do,” she said to him.
O’Hara went on to compliment Culkin for his charming and sadistic sense of humor that he had since childhood.
“It’s a sign of intelligence in a child and a key to survival at any age,” she said.
“Macaulay, congratulations. You so deserve your star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. And thank you for including me, your fake mom who left you home alone not once but twice, to share in this happy occasion,” she said jokingly. “I’m so proud of you.”
When O’Hara finished her speech, Culkin wiped away the tears on his face and hugged her.
Natasha Lyonne, who co-starred alongside Culkin in the film, Party Monster, spoke out during this occasion as well.
“I remember our first meeting, at a bar on the Lower East Side. It was down some stairs in the back, at some random, no-name, who-cares spot. We were about to start filming a true-crime film about the Michael Alig murders in the ’90s rave scene of underground New York,” the filmmaker stated. “You played Michael Alig, I was playing Brooke, someone in your inner circle. We clocked each other and I remember thinking: ‘That’s my friend.’ And we were.”
After these two speeches, Culkin gave his own speech in which he thanked Lyonne and O’Hara for being supportive.
“Thanks for all your kind words and your stories and stuff,” he declared. “You know, you made my kids’ dad, their papa, look good.”
The actor was accompanied by his soon-to-be wife, Brenda Song, as well as their two children, their two-year-old son, Dakota Song Culkin, and another son who was born earlier this year. They posed together on the star while Song held their eldest child.
“You are absolutely everything, you’re my champion,” Culkin said to his wife while trying to hold back tears. “You’re the only person happier for me today than I am. You’re not only the best woman I’ve ever known, you’re the best person I’ve ever known. You’ve given me just all my purpose. You’ve given me family.”
“And after the birth of our two boys, you’ve become one of my three favorite people,” he continued. “You’re somewhere in there. But I love you. I love you so much. To wrap things up, in the spirit of the holiday season. I just want to say, ‘Merry Christmas, ya filthy animals.'”
