Lionel Ritchie was glowing with pride at the induction ceremony for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame this weekend in Los Angeles. In this shot, he’s accompanied by Lenny Kravitz, who also presented Ritchie with his award and called Ritchie’s music “the soundtrack of my life, your life, everyone’s life.”
Many bands and musical artists were honored at the ceremony, but the main inductees were Ritchie, Pat Benatar & Neil Giraldo, Duran Duran, Eminem, Eurythmics, Dolly Parton and Carly Simon. Parton had requested that she not be considered for induction because she didn’t think her genre was appropriate, but she got more than enough votes from members to qualify anyway.

After performing some of his songs with Dave Grohl on guitar, Ritchie also delivered an acceptance speech. He called the R&R Hall of Fame “the holy grail of what we do in the business,” and added, “I was the kid that was a fan to practically everyone in the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame. To go from fan to in it … they let the fan in the club. Can you imagine?”
