There were several highlights from the red carpet leading up to the Met Gala, which featured a huge variety of looks under the event’s “Gilded Glamour,” theme. Some of the most memorable moments were when Kim Kardashian came out in an original Marilyn Monroe dress and Blake Lively orchestrated a live costume change on the red carpet itself.

Lively, who is also a co-chair of the Gala, wore a long gown that began as bronze and switched to a baby blue color in a live costume change. She said that “instead of looking to fashion to influence the dress, I looked to New York City architecture.”

Other entrances that prompted big reactions were when Lizzo joined the red carpet while playing a golden flute, when Alicia Keys showed off a cape displaying the New York skyline out of crystals, and when Gigi Hadid made her entrance in a blood-red jumpsuit along with a matching puffy quilted Versace coat.

Kardashian and Pete Davidson were the last guests of the night to walk down the red carpet, and Kardashian revealed that she was wearing a $5 million dress originally worn by Marilyn Monroe when she sang “Happy Birthday,” to President John F. Kennedy in 1962. It was reportedly so tight that Monroe was sewn into it and it contains over 2,500 hand-stitched crystals.

Even though Kardashian looked amazing in the dress and certainly channeled Monroe, it was reported that she lost 16 pounds in three weeks to be able to fit into it. Medical experts usually recommend that you shouldn’t aim to lose more than one to three pounds a week when attempting to cut weight, so if this weight loss timeline is true it is concerning from a health perspective.
