The woman suspected of killing elite cyclist Anna Morial “Mo” Wilson in Austin, Texas has been captured and arrested in Costa Rica, announced U.S. Marshals Office.
Kaitlin Marie Armstrong, 34, was found at a hostel on Santa Teresa Beach in Provincia de Puntarenas. She was wanted for the May 11 shooting of Wilson in what investigators believe was an act of romantic jealousy.
Armstrong and Wilson both had dated professional cyclist Colin Strickland, 35. Wilson and Strickland had a “brief romantic relationship” in the fall of 2021 when he separated from Armstrong.
Wilson’s family said last month that “she was not in a romantic relationship with anyone,” at the time of her death.
Police issued a homicide warrant for Armstrong on May 17, after video footage showed a vehicle similar to hers near Wilson’s home in Austin, Texas shortly before her body was found.
The day after, she used a fraudulent passport to board a flight from Newark Liberty International Airport to San Jose, Costa Rica, U.S. Marshals said.
The Marshals Service elevated the Armstrong investigation to major case status early in this investigation, which likely played a key role in her capture after a 43-day run,” said U.S. Marshal for the Western District of Texas Susan Pamerleau.
Wilson was in Austin for a cycling event when she was killed. The Vermont native referred to as “Mo” was a competitive gravel and mountain bike racer. She was 25 years old when she died.
