Halsey’s Nanny Says She Was Wrongfully Terminated For Requesting Time Off For Procedure

Halsey is facing a suit from their former live-in nanny, who claimed the singer has failed to pay her overtime wages, and also allegedly fired her after she said she was going to need a leave of absence due to a medical procedure.

The nanny, Ashley Funches claimed Halsey “misclassified” her as “exempt from overtime,” and said that her firing was clearly “in retaliation” for complaints she made.

Funches, who said she worked as a nanny for Halsey’s son Ender from the time he was a newborn to about 9 months old, said she “regularly worked over nine hours a day and 45 hours a week without overtime compensation.”

After allegedly making her first complaint about no overtime pay in October 2021, Funches said she was paid a lump sum of $5,000 in December for accumulated over time, but she “was offered no explanation as to how the lump sum payment compensated” the full breadth of her hours worked. She also claimed that Halsey returned to not paying overtime despite Funches continuing to work regular overtime hours.

Halsey has, through a rep, vehemently denied the claim and alleged a differing reason as to why Funches was fired. She said that she was terminated because Ender was left behind “unsupervised in an unsafe location while under the nanny’s care,” and implied that it happened more than once. She also added that Funches was “intoxicated while the child was in her care.”

Funches is seeking to take this case to trial and is seeking compensatory damages that will include lost wages, plus punitive damages and coverage of her attorney’s fees.
