Hailey Bieber Says Hole In Her Heart Caused Mini Stroke In March

Hailey Bieber opened up to fans in a video where she discussed the “very scary” health incident that led to her hospitalization in March. She experienced a transient ischemic attack, or “mini-stroke,” after a blood clot traveled to her brain from a hole in her heart and blocked oxygen from that area temporarily. Her video, while describing a terrifying situation, is helpful to watch so we can all be more mindful of the signs of these medical emergencies.

Her day on March 10 started out ordinary as she explained she was just having breakfast and a “normal conversation” with her husband Justin Bieber. She said she started feeling a bizarre feeling move from her shoulders to her fingertips. After she was asked if she was okay, Hailey said, “When I went to respond I couldn’t speak. The right side of my face started drooping. I couldn’t get a sentence out.”

She said the situation was “the scariest moment of my life,” and that while she was being cared for she was worried about having “permanent issues,” from it. Her speech began to return in the ambulance, and 25-year-old Hailey joked that she became present enough to correct an EMT who called ahead to the hospital saying, “I have a 30-year-old female.”

Doctors were able to identify Hailey’s issue when she arrived at the hospital, and she was lucky enough to have gotten through the worst of the symptoms by the time she got there. “My body was able to resolve it pretty quickly, and then I didn’t have any more issues for the rest of the day and the rest of the time I was in the hospital,” Hailey stated.

After she was discharged, Hailey said she went to the UCLA medical center to receive more tests and determine the cause of the stroke. She revealed that doctors thought the stroke was likely caused by several contributing factors including a recent bout with Covid-19, stress from multiple days of travel, and Bieber going on birth control pills with a history of migraines without consulting a doctor.

From more intensive tests, doctors were also able to conclude that she had a hole in her heart that wasn’t caught in her initial hospital visit. She was able to successfully get a procedure that closed it all and said. “I’m recovering really well, really fast.” She concluded by saying, “I just feel really relieved that we were able to figure everything out.”
