Due To Backlash, Warner Bros. Un-Cancels ‘Coyote Vs. Acme’

After Warner Bros. Pictures announced the cancellation of the film Coyote Vs. Acme, the studio has decided to change course and un-cancel the film.

The film’s director, Dave Green, will now be allowed to sell the film to another distributor for a theatrical or streaming release.

Warner Bros. is currently hosting screenings for Amazon Prime Video, Apple and Netflix.

The upcoming hybrid live-action/animated movie was set to suffer the same fate as Batgirl and Scoob!: Holiday Haunt, by being pulled from the release schedule to take tax write-downs from last year.

The company received extensive criticism for canceling the films.

Many filmmakers canceled upcoming meetings with the studio once word got out about Coyote Vs. Acme being shelved.

Green and several more of the film’s crew members expressed their disappointment, as well.

The director wrote about his feelings in a post on X.

“For three years, I was lucky enough to make a movie about Wile E. Coyote, the most persistent, passionate, and resilient character of all time,” the director wrote. “I was surrounded by a brilliant team, who poured their souls into this project for years. We were all determined to honor the legacies of these historic characters and actually get them right. Along the ride, we were embraced by test audiences who rewarded us with fantastic scores. I am beyond proud of the final product, and beyond devastated by WB’s decision. But in the spirit of Wile E. Coyote, resilience and persistence win the day.”

On November 10, the film’s musical composer, Steven Price, posted a video on X showing behind-the-scenes footage of the recording of the film’s soundtrack.

In the post’s caption, he wrote that he “had a lot of fun scoring Coyote Vs Acme. As no one will be able to hear it now, due to bizarre anti-art studio financial shenanigans I will never understand, here is a bit of behind the scenes footage of our ‘Meep Meep’ Roadrunner choir, with apologies to Tchaikovsky…”

The formerly scrapped motion picture is based on a humor piece published in The New Yorker back in 1990.

James Gunn is the film’s producer and co-writer. The stars are Will Forte, the lawyer representing the titular protagonist, Wile E. Coyote, against his former employer, played by John Cena, the defendant of the titular AMCE Corporation.
