Chris Rock Jokes About Will Smith Slap In London Stand-Up Set

Chris Rock has likely been working heavily on comedy material related to the now-infamous slap he received at the hand of Will Smith while presenting an award at The Oscars. He has been mostly silent in the wake of the incident but during a stand-up performance in London the comic cracked that we may be able to hear more about it on a certain massive streamer one day.

Rock largely avoided the obvious elephant in the room during his performance at the Royal Albert Hall. The best that audiences got as Rock’s reaction to the slap was him saying, “I’m okay, if anybody is wondering. Got most of my hearing back.”

With that one jab out of the way, Rock plainly stated, “Don’t expect me to talk about the bullsh––. I’ll talk about it at some point… on Netflix.” Rock clearly needs a bigger paycheck to talk about the biggest slap of the decade so far, adding on to joke, “Your tickets were expensive, but not that expensive.”

Rock has only lightly touched on his experience in performances following the incident. In his first public appearance following the slap at The Wilbur in Boston, Rock reportedly said he was “still processing” the altercation. He also briefly mentioned the slap by cracking “was that Will Smith?” After comedian Dave Chappelle was tackled at a comedy festival in Los Angeles in early May.

After the slap, Smith resigned from the Oscar’s governing org, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and they followed that resignation with an additional punishment where the actor will be barred from attending the Oscars ceremony for the next ten years. Smith has been laying low since the Oscars and was last spotted in Mumbai, India on a trip for “spiritual” purposes and to practice some yoga and meditation.

Smith’s wife, Jada Pinkett-Smith, also mentioned on an episode of her talk show Red Table Talk, that the family will be discussing the slap on an episode of the show when they are ready. “Considering all that has happened in the past few weeks, the Smith family has been focusing on deep healing. Some of the discoveries of our healing will be shared when the time calls,” Pinkett-Smith said.
