Billie Eilish Slams Restrictive Texas Abortion Law: ‘Shut The F— up!’

Singer Billie Eilish shared her feelings on Texas’ new abortion law at the Austin City Limits Festival on Saturday.

The 19-year-old spoke out about the controversial law during her set. She shared with the audience that she considered canceling the performance in order to “punish” the state.

”When they made that s— a law, I almost didn’t want to do the show, because I wanted to punish this f—— place for allowing that to happen,” Eilish told her fans. “But then I remembered, it’s you guys that are f—— victims, and you deserve everything in the world. We need to tell them to shut the f— up!”

Eilish then had the crowd yell out, “My body, My f—– choice!” Behind her the large screens said, “Bans Off Our Bodies” displayed proudly.

The slogan is based on the #BanOfMyBodies campaign started by Planned Parenthood. In a previous statement about the campaign, Eilish had said, “We cannot live freely and move fully in the world when our basic right to access the reproductive health care we need is under attack.” Other celebs have spoken out and protested the abortion law, including Lizzo, Bella Hadid and Eilish’s brother, Finneas.

Eilish went on Instagram and posted pictures from her performance. “Last night was f—— crazy. One of my favorites,” she wrote as the caption.

For the past month, Eilish has gotten back into performing at music festivals started up again after the pandemic put them on a pause. She recently performed at the Governor’s Ball in New York City and the iHeartRadio Festival in Las Vegas.

The new Texas abortion law prohibits abortions after six weeks of pregnancy and does not include exceptions from rape or incest cases. It will also allow private citizens to sue abortion clinics or doctors suspected of performing abortions after six weeks. Anyone who has aided someone trying to get an abortion can also be prosecuted. The new law violates the Supreme Court precedent set Roe v. Wade, which established a woman’s right to an abortion nationally.
