Affleck wanted to clarify what he said in his interview with Stern, explaining, “I had gone on and said how much we respect each other and cared about each other and cared about our kids and put them.”
The dad of three added that the part of the interview that gained attention “just made me out to be the worst, most insensitive, stupid, awful guy.”
Affleck said he understands that his personal life can make headlines (such as his rekindling with ex Jennifer Lopez) or pictures can become “memes he explained that when it comes to his family, “I have to draw a line, and be clear.”
He concluded, “That’s not true. I don’t believe that. It’s the exact opposite of who I am, what I believe.”
In his Stern interview, Affleck got real about his struggles with drinking while married to Garner. He was open about his drinking habits getting worse during challenging times in their relationship.
Affleck said if he and Garner stayed together, they “would’ve ended up… probably at each other’s throats.”
“I’d probably still be drinking. It’s part of why I started drinking… because I was trapped,” he admitted. “I was like ‘I can’t leave ’cause of my kids, but I’m not happy. What do I do? What I did was drink a bottle of scotch and fall asleep on the couch, which turned out not to be the solution.”
