After President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump tested positive for coronavirus, their 14-year-old son Barron Trump tested positive, as well, despite initially testing negative.
In an announcement made on Wednesday called “My personal experience with COVID-19,” the first lady detailed discussed her son’s diagnosis as well as her own, adding that Barron testing positive was one of her greatest fears as a parent.
Melania was relieved when her son’s test for the virus came up negative, but the relief was unfortunately short-lived.
“My fear came true when he was tested again and it came up positive,” the first lady wrote. “Luckily he is a strong teenager and exhibited no symptoms. In one way I was glad the three of us went through this at the same time so we could take care of one another and spend time together. He has since tested negative.”
The first lady, now 50, experienced “a roller coaster of symptoms” such as aches, fatigue and a cough. The president, 74, experienced symptoms so severe, he was transferred to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for three days and treated with oxygen.
Melania wrote in her statement, “I want people to know that I understand just how fortunate my family is to have received the kind of care that we did. If you are sick, or if you have a loved one who is sick – I am thinking of you and will be thinking of you every day.”
The first lady emphasizes the importance of healthy living, balanced diets and lots of fresh air. Notably, she did not mention social distancing or wearing a mask in her statement.
