An Atlanta airport is jokingly offering flights to Black Panther‘s Wakanda.
Ryan Coogler‘s record-breaking Marvel film, Black Panther, has been sweeping the nation since its debut less than a week ago. The film follows the same-named superhero, who hails from a fictional African nation called Wakanda. In celebration of the groundbreaking film, Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport is offering flights to Wakanda.
“The bags are packed #WakandaForever,” the airport’s official Twitter handle wrote alongside a photo of a gate reading the flight information. Thousands of users responded with shares and likes.
Fans responded to the tweet, asking questions like “Which airline is that and does it have WiFi?” and “can you get me to #Wakanda?” to which the airport played along. “#ATLForever and we have the fastest Wi-Fi Nation wide [winking emoji]” and “Yes, Daily flights [at] 7:30.”
Lupita Nyong’o, who plays Nakia in the film, also got involved, asking, “Apart from La Femme Nakia, what else is on the in-flight entertainment? T’Challa’s Angels, M’Baku To The Future, Shuri’s Gotta Have It, Killmonger Bill, W’Kabi In The Woods…?”
The airport kept up with the clever responses. :Of course. Plus, Coming to Wakanda,” they said, before adding a second tweet: “We’ve gotta have some music on the in-flight entertainment too. Now streaming: Killmonger Me Softly, T’Challa Back Girl, M’Baku That Thang Up, Straight Outta Wakanda, N’Jadaka Said Knock You Out.”
Black Panther premiered to a $242 million gross at the box office over its opening weekend. The earnings beat out last year’s Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which made $241.6 million in its opening weekend, making Black Panther the second-highest grossing film in its first four days at the North American box office. 2016’s Star Wars: The Force Awakens remains at number one, having grossed $288.1 million in the same amount of time.
Chadwick Boseman stars as the title character and faces off against villain Erik Killmonger, played by Michael B. Jordan. Black Panther also marks the biggest opening for an African-American director in history. It also holds the highest ranking from Rotten Tomatoes of any Marvel film at 97%.
