Adam Sandler is being called out for his awkward touching of Claire Foy‘s knee during an interview.
On The Graham Norton Show, Sandler was telling a story and placed his hand on The Crown actress’ knee for no apparent reason. She squirmed a little, and touched his hand which he then moved. Almost playfully, Sandler put the hand right back on her knee, and she awkwardly touched it again and laughed nervously. He then removed it and continued with his story.
Viewers noted how uncomfortable Foy appeared at the instance, though she played it off well. “Claire Foy replacing Adam Sandler’s hand onto his own knee rather than hers, was the perfect ‘haha dont touch me again’ move #GrahamNorton,” wrote one Twitter user. “Adam Sandler has no social awareness of how awkward he seemed to be making Emma Thompson and Claire Foy #stoptouching #GrahamNorton,” said another.
Sandler’s The Meyerowitz Stories co-star Thompson seemed a little concerned with his behavior. He even later touched her leg as well.
A spokesperson for Foy released a statement on her behalf, and it must have put Sandler at ease. “We don’t believe anything was intended by Adam’s gesture, and it has caused no offense to Claire,” the spokesperson said.
This incident comes in the wake of the Harvey Weinstein scandal, in which the famed Hollywood producer is under investigation for the more than 60 sexual harassment and assault allegations being brought against him. Foy and Thompson have both been active voices in the conversation condemning the ongoing sexual assault of women, especially in Hollywood.
