Actor Val Kilmer is recovering from his two-year-long battle with throat cancer and is also having to adjust to the new sound of his voice. Doctors performed surgery on Kilmer’s trachea, which altered the way his voice sounds.
The Top Gun star appeared on Good Morning America on Monday when he said, “I’m doing great, I feel a lot better than I sound.”
He continued saying, “It’s just like any other language or dialect. You have to figure out a way to communicate that’s no different than any other acting challenge but it’s just a very unique set of circumstances.”
Kilmer kept his cancer battle largely out of the public eye. If he made an appearance, he would wear a scarf around his neck.
However, it now appears the actor is well on his path to recovery. He is currently in post-production mode with three movies and is doing online promotion for his crime thriller, Paydirt, co-starring Luke Gross and his 28-year-old daughter Mercedes for her screen debut.
Kilmer will also reappear as Tom “Iceman” Kazanski in the upcoming, long-awaited sequel to Top Gun in which the actor got his big break in Hollywood. The sequel is called Top Gun: Maverick and is scheduled to come out in July of 2021. Kilmer will star alongside Tom Cruise, Miles Teller, Jennifer Connolly and John Hamm.
