Ex-royals Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have 55 Twitter accounts spreading hate against the couple.
Data analysis firm, Bot Sentinels, conducted the investigation and found surprising new information.
The firm found that accounts were solely used to create negative content toward the Duke and Duchess of Sussex. They analyzed 114,000 tweets using hashtags and keywords and found that 28 extra accounts would be created to amplify the hate.
The accounts have a combined 187,631 followers and their content reached an estimated 17,000 users, according to Bot Sentinel.
“Our research revealed these accounts were brazenly coordinating on the platform, and at least one account was openly recreating people to join their hate initiative on Twitter,” read the report.
The targeted amounts would share links to “private blogs, Instagram accounts, and YouTube channels that are all created to spread negative content towards Harry and Markle.
By using Twitter accounts without friends or followers, they conducted their investigation and found that, after viewing two hate accounts, Twitter’s algorithm would suggest that they follow numerous hate accounts that spread similar content.
The accounts used “tactics to avoid suspension” and keep accounts alive even though Twitter suspended 40% of accounts.
Tactics included using wording like “parody” in their profiles and coded racist language used towards Markle.
A Twitter spokesperson said the site is “actively investigating the information and accounts” in the report.
The negative content specifically towards Markle was an influencing factor in her and her husband leaving as active working members of the Royal family. Markle had been vocal about how the online hate has affected her mental health.
Marble told Teenage Therapy podcast last year: “I’m told that in 2019 I was the most trolled person in the entire world – male or female. Now, eight months that I wasn’t even visible. I was on maternity leave or without a baby, but what was able to just be manufactured and churned out, it’s almost unsurvivable.”
