New York Police Investigate Suspicious Package Addressed To Robert De Niro, Latest Threat Made To Trump Critics

Police in New York have launched an investigation after a suspicious package addressed to actor and director Robert De Niro was found Thursday morning in a building in Lower Manhattan.

The address on the package — 375 Greenwich St. — reportedly matches that of the 75-year-old Oscar winner’s company TriBeCa Productions as well as the Tribeca Grill restaurant, which De Niro owns.

De Niro is a vocal critic of President Donald Trump, and the package he received — which reportedly contains markings similar to other recent pipe bomb packages — is the latest in a series of threatening deliveries made to prominent Democrats around the country this week.

Former Vice President Joe Biden received a device sent to him at a U.S. postal service facility in Delaware this week. The name of the return sender written on that package’s mailingwas that of Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a congresswoman from Florida who is a former chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee.

Among the other Democratic officials who received suspicious packages were former President Barack Obama (in Washington, D.C.), Bill and Hillary Clinton (at their home in Chappaqua, New York), California Rep. Maxine Waters and billionaire philanthropist George Soros (at his home in Westchester County, New York).

New York Police Department Commissioner James O’Neill tweeted that “highly trained experts” were probing the packages, which have reportedly been sent to a secure facility in the Bronx.

Former CIA Director John Brennan also had a package addressed to him that was sent to CNN’s New York City offices. Both CNN’s and the Tribeca Film Center’s buildings were reportedly evacuated.

According to CNN, law enforcement officials said many of the devices found in the packages contained a sulfur substance, which could have likely caused a detonation.

De Niro famously called Trump a “national disgrace” in October 2016, just weeks before the presidential election. The actor also said he wanted to punch the former Apprentice host “in the face.”

At the Tony Awards in June, De Niro slammed the president again in a short speech before presenting: “F—k Trump,” he said. “It’s no longer ‘Down with Trump,’ it’s ‘F—k Trump.'”
