New York Jets Reportedly Not So Taken With Tim Tebow
The most talked-about quarterback in New York, Tim Tebow, is not even the most popular quarterback in his own locker room. In excess of 12 players on the New York Jets offered harsh criticism of Tebow, according to a scathing report form the New York Daily News.
Players on both sides of the ball have said that they don’t think Tebow has improved as a quarterback during his time with the Jets. He has reportedly been especially sub-par in practice, a trend that has reportedly carried over from his time with the Denver Broncos.
Jets head coach Rex Ryan has faced extreme scrutiny as his team has stumbled to a 3-6 record. Many people have called for a change in quarterbacks. Incumbent starter Mark Sanchez ranks last in the league in completion percentage (52%); however, it seems as though the current Jets prefer Sanchez over Tebow by a significant margin.
“It’s not even close,” offensive linemen Matt Slauson, a staunch Sanchez supporter, told the paper. “All the other quarterbacks know it. I have all the confidence in Mark. We don’t really have a choice.”
Slauson later added with regard to the Jets’ two backup quarterbacks in Tebow and Greg McElroy, “We have Greg … and we have an athlete.”
The fingers have been pointed not only at the quarterbacks, but the poor Jets receiving corps, which was suffered a mighty blow early in the season when star wideout Santonio Holmes suffered a season-ending injury. No matter the cause, the Jets need to find a solution soon to stop the bleeding. Since the end of last season, the Jets have lost nine of their last 12 games, a disastrous stumble for a team that once had Super Bowl aspirations. —Hal Sundt
