New Trailer Released For Seth McFarlane’s ‘Star Trek’ Spoof, ‘The Orville’
The new trailer for Seth McFarlane‘s fifth show for FOX, The Orville, was released on Monday. The new show will be the first live-action show McFarlane has created for the network.
A spoof on Star Trek, The Orville stars McFarlane as Captain Ed, a poor man’s Captain Kirk. Unlike his counterpart, Ed is picked to captain the Orville ship not because he is exceptional but instead, because he is unexceptional – there are thousands of ships in the show, all of which need a captain.
Now in charge of the ship, Ed, like Kirk, is a visionary and a leader – at least, he’s attempting to be – but his voice is stifled by his new first officer, Kelly Grayson (Adrianne Palicki), who also happens to be his ex-wife. Grayson, like Spock, is cold, calculating, and rational, much to Ed’s dismay.
The first season of the series will consist of 13, one-hour episodes and while a specific date has not been set, the show will likely premier in September 2017. The Orville has been given a Thursday night time slot.
Jon Farveau (The Jungle Book, Chef) will direct the pilot episode of the series, which was filmed in late 2016. The rest of the season is currently being filmed.
The Orville will also star Scott Grimes, as Ed’s best friend and Chekov Parody, Gordon Malloy. Also in the series are actors Mark Johnson, Penny Johnson Jerald, and Peter Macon.
