Following a press statement today from Berlin at the 2016 IFA Conference, Sony has unveiled two new additions to the their Xperia X series of smartphones: The Xperia XZ and Xperia X compact.
The dual offering of new devices from Sony’s flagship series comes from a functional perspective, namely giving consumers a smaller, more hand-friendly alternative to the larger XZ; the compact has a screen size of 4.6 inches, whereas the XZ boasts a 5.6 inch display. Either option provides plenty of horsepower, equipped with a Snapdragon 820 processor and 3GB of RAM. Add in 32GB of storage, a microSD card slot, and USB-C port and you have a contemporary smartphone that works well and looks great in a metal and glass body.
The two Xperia phones’ most advertised feature are their 23-megapixel Exmor RS sensor cameras. Improving upon the previous X Performance smartphone, the XZ and X compact have a laser-autofocus system, designed for focusing targets fasters, as well as more accurate colors on the display. Predictive Hybrid Autofocus also helps you capture fast moving targets. For the selfie-aficionados, the 13MP front camera will have you looking your best. Another new feature to recording options for the device is the addition of 4K video recording and 5-axis image stabilization.
Sony has also been thinking about lifetime battery sustainability. An unusual new feature will charge the phone’s battery up to 90%, only filling the cell at the last minute before charging ends. The device will adapt to your charging habits to pull off this feat, and Sony claims this will double battery life.
Prices have not yet been released for either phone, but most experts belief the compact will be cheaper the XZ. The XZ is set release later this month, with the compact rolling out in October.
