In response to numerous public records requests, the Bureau of Prisons released thousands of pages of documents that cover financier and sex offender Jeffrey Epstein‘s final days before his death by suicide while awaiting sex trafficking charges. The files contain many repeated papers and are disorganized and non-chronological.
The new set of documents tracks Epstein’s time spent at the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) in Manhattan as well as the aftermath of his death. The records reveal several new details, including that Epstein sent a letter to connect with disgraced USA gymnastics team doctor Larry Nassar, who was convicted of sexually abusing athletes.
A medical document stated that he had sex with more than ten women in the last five years and had been treated for chlamydia.

In addition, a mathematics professor at Morgan State University, a historically black college, argued that Epstein should give him $5 million to repair his reputation in black communities. Dr. Jonathan Farley asked Epstein to either donate money for a chair position at Morgan State for “women in mathematics” or give money to him personally to allow him to become a lecturer at Oxford University. He wrote, “Our accepting your $5 million will show the world you are not a pariah and may help you avoid a conviction like Bill Cosby.”
The visitor logs, which are mostly illegible, of who came to see Epstein during his time at the MCC as well as medical and psychiatric reports were also included.
The documents illustrate the confusion and accusations among prison officials, Epstein’s lawyers and the U.S. Attorney’s office shortly after Epstein died. The chaos was exacerbated as the investigation into Epstein’s death was covered by tabloid outlets, which sometimes even received information before prison officials or U.S. attorneys were made aware.
