New Ivanka Trump Interview Contradicts Jan. 6 Committee Comments

British documentarian Alex Holder, who filmed many of interviews with relevant figures in the January 6 Capitol riots before and after the events, has turned over his footage to the House select committee investigating it.

Holder’s footage includes interviews with then-President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence, and Trump’s adult children including Eric and Ivanka Trump. Ivanka’s interview, from mid-December 2020, is of interest to the committee because she says in one clip “as the President has said, every single vote needs to be counted and needs to be heard, and he campaigned for the voiceless” despite the fact that Trump was actually trying to get the counting of votes stopped.

Ivanka also later said her father “has to take on this fight. Look, you fight for what you love the most and he loves this country, and he loves this country’s people.” This seems to contradict Ivanka’s earlier claims under oath that Attorney General William Barr’s statement denying the White House’s voter fraud claims “affected my perspective,” on the election. Ivanka’s interview took place nine days after Barr made his statement.

Holder has emerged as a major witness for the January 6 committee because of his unparalleled access to the Trump family at this key moment. The documentary interviews were first organized by Jason Greenblatt, a former Trump Organization lawyer who pitched the interviews as a “puff piece.”

Holder said delivering his testimony to the committee that he was “unsure” whether Ivanka believed that her father won the election or not. “It was consistent with what she and her siblings have said about their father. They love their father, and they admire him immensely, and they sort of give the impression that they would do everything they can to help support him. They definitely gave me that impression, not necessarily just the election, but in general.”

The filmmaker also noted that he went into his interviews with President Trump not thinking he actually believed that he lost the election. “After that interview, I remember being struck by how wrong I was. He 100 percent believed the election was taken from him,” Holder said.
