New iPhone 5S To Be Unveiled September 10
Apple is reportedly gearing up to unveil a new iPhone on September 10 at an unconfirmed media event.
Though no official date has been announced by Apple media reports claim that the software company was toying with the idea of releasing less expensive versions of the iPhone, as well as ones in various colors and bigger screens.
The most recent iPhone model, the iPhone 5, was released Septemer 21, 2012, and boasted the lightest and thinnest design yet of the coveted smart phone. And, rumors are swirling as to what this next incarnation of the iPhone could entail.
The Examiner reports that the new iPhone (rumored to be called iPhone 5S) will have the ability to scan fingerprints. Instead of a passcode, owners would be able to access their phones by scanning their thumbprints. The article also suggests that Apple’s announcement of a new mobile operating system, iOS 7, in June was the first step in unveiling the new iPhone.
Others are skeptical to accept the reality of a fingerprint sensor home button. IB Times reports that no concrete leaks about the next iPhone have included proof of the fingerprint sensor technology.
It is true, however, that Apple acquired AuthenTec, a tech company specializing in finger scanning technology, in July of 2012. AuthenTec uses something called a ‘Smart Sensor’ that can be programmed to use different finger scans to perform different tasks (for example, a scan of one’s pinky finger could turn on iTues on the iPhone).
Apple has yet to comment, but sources suspect that the company will officially announce the press event a week before, in early September.
