‘New Girl’ Renewed For Seventh And Final Season
New Girl, the longest-running live-action comedy currently on FOX is coming to a close. But first, it has been announced, there will be a seventh season.
The final season will be shortened to eight episodes, rather than the usual 20-plus episodes of the past six seasons.
New Girl premiered in 2011 and stars Zooey Deschanel, who had appeared in 500 Days of Summer, her break-out role, two years earlier. The comedy also stars Jake Johnson, Max Greenfield, Lamorne Morris and Hannah Simone.
Simone posted a photo to Instagram, expressing her feelings over the upcoming final season.
“Six years ago these clowns came together for the first time,” Simone’s post began. “This fall we will kick off our 7th season and shoot our final 8 episodes. Thank you to every single person who has helped make our show possible including everyone who has watched the show.”
While New Girl did not perform as well as expected during its sixth season, the show has brought in large amounts of money through syndication deals with TBS, MTV, Netflix and Hulu.
Saying good-bye to one show, Elizabeth Meriweather, the creator of New Girl, has a new pilot up for consideration for the 2018 television season at FOX. It has yet to be picked up.
