In one month, the latest chapter in the Star Wars saga will be released – and the marketing blitz for The Force Awakens continues with new TV spots.
“TV Spot 1” mixes old footage with some interesting new shots. Among them is a short glimpse of new character Finn (John Boyega) engaging a stormtrooper with a lightsaber. While we’ve seen that Finn gets a chance to use the famous weapon, this is the first time a stormtrooper has been able to fight back. The weapon the trooper uses is similar to one seen in the last Star Wars film, Revenge of the Sith. In that, droid bodyguards for villain General Grievous used “electrostaffs” to engage the Jedi in one-on-one combat. Maybe that’s the weapon this trooper uses.
Another shocker from “TV Spot 2” sees new character Rey (Daisy Ridley) flying the Millennium Falcon, with Finn at the gunner’s seat. Previous trailers have shown Rey and Finn on the vessel, usually captained by smuggler Han Solo (Harrison Ford). So it’s a bit of a surprise to see the two new characters fly it.
Other new shots include main villain Kylo Ren (Adam Driver) deflecting blaster shots with his lightsaber, Rey watching as starships attack an unknown location, and Han Solo handing Rey what looks to be a blaster. “You might need this,” he says.
Speculation and anticipation has run wild since Disney announced a new trilogy in the Star Wars universe. That has heightened as actors are revealed, new footage is seen, and we draw ever closer to the debut of The Force Awakens. When pre-orders went live a month ago, the demand crashed the ticket websites. And now, only one short month remains before The Force Awakens. The film opens Dec. 18.
