A new teaser for the tenth series of Doctor Who was released Sunday and after confirming in January that this coming series would be his last as The Doctor, Peter Capaldi looks particularly celebrated.
In the teaser, viewers are introduced to The Doctor’s newest companion, Bill Potts (Pearl Mackie) who says of The Doctor, “The first time you meet him, he’s funny. The second time, he’s amazing. The third time, you realize he’s the most dangerous man in the universe.”
“He says he’s a man of peace, but he walks in war,” she continues. “I’m having the time of my life and I wouldn’t miss it for the world, even if it kills me.”
The tenth series promises to be one of goodbyes because also leaving the show at the end of series is current show-runner, Steven Moffat, who announced his departure, in November of 2016. Replacing Moffat will be Chris Chibnall, who has done previous work on BBC America’s Broadchurch, and will air his first series of Doctor Who in 2018.
Chibnall has a long established relationship with Doctor Who and has written several episodes in the past. In addition, he was a key writer on Torchwood, a Doctor Who spinoff.
Whoever will replace Capaldi as The Doctor is a lot less clear. Many expect the next iteration of The Doctor to be female and potentially also a person of color.
Rumors have suggested that British actress Tilda Swinton is the front-runner to replace Capaldi. Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Fleabag) is also rumored to be in the running.
The tenth series of Doctor Who will air on April 15, on BBCOne.
