Celebrated filmmaker Darren Aronofsky (Black SwanRequiem for a DreamPi) has a new project in the works that has largely been kept under wraps. While some may have thought that the first trailer would reveal some information about the new film, Mother!, they will surely be just as confused after seeing the first teaser.

The teaser, released on Monday, shows a despondent Jennifer Lawrence wandering aimlessly through a large house in the country while dialogue from the film plays louder and louder in the background.

First, the voice of Ed Harris can be heard saying, “They told me I could find a room here.”

As the tension increases, Javier Bardem says ominously, “They’ve come here to see me.”

With a strange, pulsating sound, amping up behind the dialogue, screams and calls of “murderer” can be heard.

The trailer then cuts to quick frightening images, including bursting lightbulbs, gusts of flames, dying bees, and a scared Bardem.

The only synopsis available for Mother!, which is to be released on September 15, reads, “A couple’s relationship is tested when uninvited guests arrive to their home, disrupting their tranquil existence.”

The teaser trailer also announces that a full trailer will be made available on August 8.

In addition to Lawrence, Harris, and Bardem, Mother! stars Michelle PfeifferDomhnall Gleeson and Kristen Wiig.
