It has been nearly 20 years since a new Matt Groening series has debuted, but now the wait is almost over, as Netflix has announced that the first ten episodes of Disenchantment, the latest from the Simpsons and Futurama creator, will premiere on August 17. Netflix had previously given the series a 20-episode order, so presumably ten more episodes will be arriving at a later date.

The series takes place in the medieval kingdom of Dreamland and follows the exploits of alcoholic Bean (Abbi Jacobson), her aptly named elf companion Elfo (Nat Faxon), and her “personal demon” Luci (Eric Andre). The voice cast also includes several veterans of Groening shows, including Billy West, John DiMaggio, Maurice LaMarche, Tress MacNeille and David Herman.

Based on the images that have been released thus far, fans of Groening’s animation style should be pleased, as Disenchantment‘s character designs hew fairly closely to those of The Simpsons and Futurama, perhaps more so the latter, although Elfo is definitely giving off some Bart Simpson vibes.
