The Mötley Crüe biopic, The Dirt, based on the 2001 book, The Dirt: Confessions of the World’s Most Notorious Rock Band, has been released on Netflix after 13 years in development hell, and oh, is it dirty!
The movie, directed by Jackass co-creator Jeff Tremaine, is about the drug-fueled antics of a group of misfits and their rise in the heavy metal scene. The rockstar lifestyle is hectic and the consequences it can bring can be disastrous.
The film is told through the point of view of the band’s bassist Nikki Sixx, played by Douglas Booth, who gives a stand-out performance. The drummer, Tommy Lee, is played by Colson Baker, better know as Machine Gun Kelly. And the roles of Mick Mars and Vince Neil, are played by Iwan Rheon and Daniel Webber respectively.

Unlike Bohemian Rhapsody which was really about the music, The Dirt is focused largely on the crazy drug stories and scandals that happened to the Mötley Crüe. A lot of the history and later events are glossed over and aren’t given in depth. And due to the length of the film, not all the crazy stories mentioned in the book could make it into the final film.
