Netflix is bringing the beloved Squid Game series to life by creating the biggest reality competition series ever, Squid Game: The Challenge.
Just like the TV series, the competition will have 456 real players competing in the game for a reward of $4.56 million. They will compete through a series of games directly inspired by the original show, including some new surprising additions. It will be a sequence of games that will test the contestants’ strengths, strategies, and alliance choices.
“Squid Game took the wold by storm with Director Hwang’s captivating story and iconic imagery. We’re grateful for his support as we turn the fictional world into reality in this massive competition and social experiment,” said Brandon Ring, Netflix VP of Unscripted and Documentary Series. “Fans of the dram series are in for a fascinating and unpredictable journey as our 456 real world contestants navigate the biggest competition series ever, full of tension and twists, with the biggest ever cash prize at the end.”
The competition will consist of ten episodes, co-produced between Studio Lambert (The Circle) and The Garden, part of ITV Studios, and it will be filmed in the UK. Stephen Lambert, Tim Harcourt and Toni Ireland from Studio Lambert and John Hay, Nicola Hill and Nicola Brown from The Garden will serve as executive producers.
