Netflix Cancels ‘GLOW’ & ‘Teenage Bounty Hunters’

Netflix has announced that it will be reversing its initial decision to renew two of its comedy series, GLOW and Teenage Bounty Hunters. The streaming service has chosen now to cancel both shows, with GLOW being due to COVID-19, but it did not give a reason for canceling Teenage Bounty Hunters.

The coronavirus pandemic has halted Netflix’s plans to film new seasons for many of its popular shows with the viral situation keeping GLOW from filming with its final season as planned. Show creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch told Deadline, “COVID has killed actual humans. It’s a national tragedy and should be our focus. COVID also apparently took down our show…. Netflix has decided not to finish filming the final season of GLOW. We were handed the creative freedom to make a complicated comedy about women and tell their stories. And wrestle. And now that’s gone. There’s a lot of sh–ty things happening in the world that are much bigger than this right now. But it still sucks that we don’t get to see these 15 women in a frame together again.” GLOW had explored the lives of down and out Hollywood actors and directors who found a new chance at fame through an all-women wrestling circuit in the 1980s.

While Teenage Boy Hunters was canceled on the exact same day, its termination had nothing to do with the COVID-19 pandemic. Industry insiders have speculated that the series’ performance did not convince Netflix executives of its worth as an investment. Netflix has also canceled other shows, such as the critically acclaimed Tucca & Bertie, created by a Bojack Horseman animator, after one season.
