Netflix has just spent $450 million for the rights to Knives Out 2 and Knives Out 3, the next two follow-up films to the 2019 murder mystery. The films will reunite director Rian Johnson and star Daniel Craig.
The film earned $311.4 million. Johnson received an Oscar nomination for Best Original Screenplay in 2020.
With Netflix owning rights to the film series, the streaming service goes head one with their new challengers of HBO Max, Disney+ and AppleTV+, who have all threatened Netflix’s dominance in the streaming world.
Craig will reprise his role in the sequels as private detective Benoit Blanc. The new series allows the actor to head straight into the movies as Craig recently wrapped up his five-film stint as James Bond with the delayed No Time To Die, which will be released in theaters this fall.
Knives Out centered on the murder mystery of a writer killed in his own home. His money-grabbing family found themselves as the main suspects. The all-star ensemble featured Jamie Lee Curtis, Chris Evans, Ana de Armas, Michael Shannon, Don Johnson, Toni Collette and Christopher Plummer.
