Nest Cam IQ, the latest security camera from the venerable hardware manufacturer, builds upon its predecessor, the Nest Cam Outdoor. However, while the IQ looses the ability to be placed outside, it receives high-end technology compromising it.

NEST CAM IQ REVIEW

The biggest upgrade for the IQ would be its 4K camera — a five megapixel increase from its forbearers. Its zooming capabilities are expanded, too. With night vision, high dynamic range tech, advanced imaging and a radius spanning 130 degrees, the IQ offers detailed visuals that will oversee your home. Nest’s Supersight offers dual visuals of the IQ’s feed. However, it should be noted that the IQ will only stream in 1080p.

Additionally, should an intruder be detected, the IQ’s speaker will activate. This emits an audible sound, which is accentuated by the speaker’s noise-cancellation and echo-suppression features. Plus, the speakers are promised to deliver audio seven-times greater than the prior Nest Cams.

Additionally, with the optional Nest Aware service, you’ll obtain “smarter alerts and video history.” However, a free, less specific version will be included with the IQ. Whereas the full version will alert you as to who the camera detects with its face detection, the free version will merely inform you that someone was detected.

Nest’s own Works with Nest system should allow you to easily integrate your Nest Cam IQ into your household. Unfortunately, the IQ is currently incompatible with certain products, including Amazon’s Echo speakers and Google Home.

Reliable alternatives do exist for cheaper than the Nest Cam IQ’s $299 price point. Regardless, the IQ should offer you a vivid, detailed look at your home’s interior. If you’re concerned about burglaries, the IQ might be the partner you need.

The IQ can be pre-ordered directly from Nest’s website. A bundle containing two Nest Cam IQs is also available for $498. Shipping is stated to occur in four to five weeks, meaning your product should be sent out by the end of the month.
