NeNe Leakes, the Real Housewives of Atlanta star, is reportedly the frontrunner to take over Joan Rivers’ spot on the Fashion Police panel.
Leakes, who has parlayed her Real Housewives fame into a number of other projects, is in consideration primarily due to her comic timing, a source told Perez Hilton. Kathy Griffin is reportedly also in the running to join Kelly Osbourne, Giuliana Rancic and George Kotsiopoulos on Fashion Police.
Melissa Rivers, Joan Rivers’ sole surviving daughter, announced last week that Fashion Police would continue airing despite her mother’s tragic passing.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of Joan Rivers and, for the last two weeks, have turned our attention to honoring her memory on all of our platforms," E! said in a statement. "We have also thought long and hard about what Joan would have wanted as it pertains to the future of Fashion Police. We decided, with Melissa Rivers's blessing, that Joan would have wanted the franchise to continue."
Osbourne, who said that Rivers was like a grandmother to her, is apparently not too enthusiastic about the show going on following Rivers’ death. The 29-year-old personality “feels that it is pointless to continue on with the show. Kelly says that anyone that you try replace Joan Rivers with will fail miserably,” an insider told RadarOnline.
Since shooting to celebrity status on the Bravo reality show, Leakes has guest-starred on Glee and had a main role on Ryan Murphy’s The New Normal. She’s also launched a clothing line for HSN. In recent months, Leakes has hinted that she might be looking to walk away from Real Housewives.
