NeNe Leakes Confirms Her Son Brentt Leakes Suffered Heart Failure & A Stroke
On Monday, Real Housewives of Atlanta star NeNe Leakes updated fans on her son Brentt Leakes‘ health following his recent heart failure and stroke.
NeNe confirmed on her Instagram Story that 23-year-old Brentt was hospitalized in late September for a severe health condition.
“He’s really young for something like that to happen to him,” NeNe noted.
The RHOA alum told her 4.3 million followers that Brentt “has been struggling with speaking,” but he’s already “shown some improvement and we’re really happy and blessed for that.”
“This is not the way I wanted it to come out. We wanted to be able to talk about it ourselves when Brentt was in a better place,” NeNe addressed fans. “So, here I am because I would rather the correct thing be out there than something that’s not correct.”
NeNe responded to fans’ questions and concerns about the possible causes of Brentt’s condition.
“So, they have run a number of tests on him to see what could have possibly made this happen to him,” she shared. “And we are still trying to figure it out. Because if we knew the cause, obviously they could treat the cause. It was very scary.”
The reality star added that Brentt’s doctors have ruled out drugs, HIV, weight, Covid-19 and other infections. They have yet not ruled out a genetic condition.
The RHOA star noted that September was especially hard for Brentt because his father, Gregg Leakes tragically died of colon cancer in September 2021.
“One of the things I do know, [is that] Brentt was very stressed out in the month of September because that was the one-year anniversary [of] the passing of his dad,” NeNe recalled. “He was very close to his dad and he’s been super stressed out over it. And I don’t even know if that has anything to do with it at all.”
Despite his many recent hardships, NeNe assured fans that her son is doing alright.
“Brentt Facetimed me this morning. He’s in good spirits,” she said.
