Nelly Files Countersuit In Alleged Sexual Assault Case

Rapper Nelly, whose real name is Cornell Iral Haynes, Jr., 43, has filed a countersuit against a woman that accused him of rape in October 2017.

The woman alleged that Nelly invited her to onto his tour bus in Seattle and then raped her. He was arrested at a Walmart in Washington in October after the accusation. A week later, she told police that she did not want to testify and end the investigation, according to The New York Times.

The investigation continued on after the woman decided she did not want to testify. Commander Steve Stocker of the Auburn Police Department told The Times, “We’re not going to just halt the investigation.”

Since then, Nelly has filed a countersuit to have the lawsuit dismissed. His lawyer, Scott Rosenblum told the Washington Post is that the allegations are “completely fabricated” and an attempt at a “money grab.”

Nelly’s girlfriend of four years Shantel Jackson, 33, took to Instagram in response to the allegations against her boyfriend. “Those dates these Jane Doe’s are claiming, I was at those venues, in the dressing rooms, and on that tour bus. There are women dealing with real issues of sexual assault and for the first time people are listening and there is a chance for a real change. But all of this work is discredited and makes things harder for the survivors when people lie.”
