Nelly Fans Stream & Purchase His Songs To Help Him Pay Off Debt With #SaveNelly Campaign

Nelly currently owes $2.4 million to the IRS, and his fans are trying to help him foot the tax lien bill by streaming and buying his music.

Nelly was hit with a $2,412,283 federal tax lien in August, and could face the seizure of his assets and property, TMZ reported. Additionally, the Missouri Department of Revenue says that the rapper owes $149,511.

Those who grew up listening to Nelly’s hits like “Country Grammar,” “Ride Wit Me,” “Hot In Herre,” “Number 1” and “Dilemma” are doing what they can to put a dent in his debt by streaming his songs. While it’s a noble cause, it will take a lot of fans streaming a lot of Nelly music to have any kind of real affect on his finances. Spotify, for instance, pays artists somewhere between $0.006 and $0.0084 per stream, according to Spin.

Those still determined to help Nelly out have been trying to encourage others to follow suit in steaming his music, using the #SaveNelly hashtag Twitter.
