Rocker Neil Young walked through the crowd gathered to protest the Dakota Access Pipeline with his acoustic guitar and harmonica and sang songs of peace. It also happened to be his 71st birthday.
The pipeline is a proposed project that would carry oil between North Dakota and Illinois, but it would be built on sacred Native American lands. Many have turned out in protest.
Young recently announced the release of his latest album Peace Trail, which will come out Dec. 2. This comes shortly after his live album Earth from earlier this year. The albums seem fitting to go with the protest of the DAPL, especially from Young, who is an environmental activist.
Young is not the only celebrity to get involved in the protests. Actors from Justice League announced their support for the protestors, and actress Shailene Woodley has become a prominent figure of the movement, and was even arrested for her peaceful participation. They, along with millions of other Americans, stand in solidarity with the Standing Rock Sioux.
