Neil Young has removed his music from Spotify over the platform’s failure to police Covid-19 misinformation. As an advocate for Covid-19 prevention, Young said he refuses to share a platform with others who are “spreading fake information about vaccines – potentially causing death to those who believe the disinformation being spread by them.”
Young affirmed in his statement, “I want you to let Spotify know immediately TODAY that I want all my music off their platform. They can have [Joe] Rogan or Young. Not both.” Young is referring to Joe Rogan‘s podcast The Joe Rogan Experience which has spread misinformation and false claims regarding vaccines and Covid-19.
Last month, 300 physicians, doctors and nurses signed an open letter to Spotify criticizing the streaming platform for allowing Rogan to continue his spread of misinformation and called on Spotify to warn its listeners of inaccuracies in Rogan’s statements.
The Joe Rogan Experience was the number one Spotify podcast globally in 2021 and is exclusive to Spotify for a multi-year licensing deal with the streaming service made in 2020.
