Neil Young revealed on Sunday in an open letter published on his website, that he is “reconsidering” taking legal action against President Donald Trump for repeated unauthorized use of his music at campaign events.
Earlier this month, the rock star said he wasn’t going to file legal action against Trump because he didn’t want to distract the president from his job.
But now he is “looking at it again” because of Trump’s handling of the protests in Portland, Oregon and other cities.
Young disagrees with Trump’s approach to Portland, describing the president’s actions as “a complete disgrace, the way he plays citizens against one another for his own political gain.”
The musician continued saying, “This rogue president is creating a much worse problem with his street thug army of uniformed hatred. Imagine what it feels like to hear ‘Rockin’ in the Free World’ after this President speaks like it is his theme song. I did not write it for that.”
After the president played three of Young’s songs during his Independence Day celebration at Mount Rushmore, Young tweeted, “This is NOT ok with me.” The star also updated his 2006 song, “Lookin’ For A Leader,” with a dig at the president.
