Naya Rivera’s Final Role Will Be Catwoman In Upcoming ‘Batman’ Movie

What is believed to be Naya Rivera‘s final role has been revealed. The late actress will voice the character Selina Kyle in the animated movie Batman: The Long Halloween, Part One.

Rivera tragically died last summer while boating on Lake Piru in California with her four-year-old son on July 8. She went missing under the water and her body was found five days later. The cause of death was later said to be drowning.

Authorities determined that she was probably swimming with her son and their boat drifted. She fought to get her son back onto the boat, but did not have enough strength to save herself.

Rivera is most recognized for playing Santana Lopez on the TV show Glee. Her character earned praise from fans who related to Lopez’s journey in discovering and embracing her sexual orientation.

Rivera became an advocate for the LGBTQ+ community and other causes. The GLAAD Media Awards plan to honor her at their virtual awards ceremony next month.

Batman: The Long Halloween is thought to be the last project she worked on, completing the voice work before her death.

The film will be the first part of a two part series based on the 1996 comic by the same name. The plot dives into Batman’s relationships with District Attorney Harvey Dent and Gotham City Police Capt. James Gordon as well as his rivalry with Gotham City villain, Holiday.

Supernatural star, Jensen Ackles, is starring in the project as Batman/Bruce Wayne. Director Chris Palmer is directly both parts of the project and it was written by Tim Sheridan.

An official release date for the movie has not been announced.
