National Siblings Day Celebrated Wednesday
National Siblings Day was celebrated Wednesday, April 10, giving brothers and sisters a special occasion to honor one another.
Nation Siblings Day was established in 1998 by the Siblings Day Foundation, a nonprofit founded by Claudia Evart, who tragically lost her brother and sister far too early in life. National Siblings Day shares the date with the birthday of her late sister, Lisette.
Siblings Day was granted a “Service Mark” in 2007 by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. But the nonprofit has set its sights even higher. They want to make the inspired holiday a federally recognized day like Mother’s and Father’s Days, according to their website.
On Wednesday, #nationalsiblingday trended on Twitter, indicating that the 14-year-old holiday may finally be catching on with the masses.
In Hollywood, there are tons of celebrity siblings, many of whom frequently work together. Sisters Kim, Khloe and Kourtney Kardashian star in reality TV series together and founded clothing boutique Dash. Brothers Ben and Casey Affleck worked as a team on the Boston crime thriller Gone Baby Gone. Other notable celeb siblings pairs include, Liam and Chris Hemsworth, Emily and Zooey Deschanel and Jake and Maggie Gyllenhall.
