Actor Nathaniel Martston, who is best known for playing Michael McBain on One Life to Live, was critically injured in a car accident over the weekend.
Marston’s mother, Elizabeth Jackson, announced her son’s devastating car crash on Facebook Saturday. In her post, Jackson revealed that Marston was on life support after breaking his neck and back in several places, as well as sustaining other life-threatening internal injuries.
“Please pray for my son Nathaniel Marston,” Jackson wrote. “He was in a car accident last night and is in the intensive care on life support. Back and neck broken in several places. Other internal injuries. Please pray that he will recover and walk again.”
Later on, Jackson returned to Facebook to quell rumors that Marston was under the influence of drugs or alcohol at the time of the accident. “Just spoke to highway patrol and tribal police. In case rumor mill gets going. Nate was sober according to cops,” Jackson wrote.
Jackson has been updating her Facebook page regularly as more news about Marston’s condition becomes available through his doctors. At her latest update on Tuesday, Jackson revealed that Marston had made it though surgery on Monday, but has yet to regain full consciousness.
“Nathaniel update: Please continue to cover Nathaniel with your prayers. While he made it through surgery he is being slow to wake up,” Jackson wrote. “He opened his eyes once at 5AM this morning.. please pray for him to become more responsive… Thank you for your prayers love and support… Sending all of you peace love and light.”
According to Jackson, there is a reasonable chance that Marston will regain the use of his upper body, but a significantly lesser chance that he will ever be able to walk again.
Marston starred on One Life to Live from 2001-2007 after starring on fellow soap opera As the World Turns. On the big screen, Marston appeared in The Craft, Love is All There Is and Ordinary Sinner. After leaving One Life to Live, Marston had returned to TV in guest-starring roles on White Collar, Castle and Blue Bloods.
