Natalie Portman has been tapped to play Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg in the biopic On The Basis Of Sex.
While Portman is attached to star in the film, Marielle Heller is in negotiations to direct and Focus Features is in talks to finance, reported Deadline. The script for On The Basis of Sex was penned by Daniel Stiepleman and made the 2014 Black List. It follows Ginsberg throughout her storied career as she fought for women’s rights and eventually became the second female justice on the Supreme Court.
On the Basis of Sex, with Robert W. Cort producing and Ram Bergman executive producing, could start production by the end of 2015.
Portman’s directorial debut A Tale of Love and Darkness will premiere at Cannes later this month. Knight of Cups, for which Portman received raves at Berlin, will hit theaters in December. She also has Jane Got a Gun and Weightless coming out in the near future.
